Dr. M. Manickam has an M.B.A from the University of Michigan, United States and M.Sc. (Statistics) from the University of Madras, India. He is the Executive Chairman of Sakthi Sugars Limited, Chairman and Managing Director of Sakthi Auto Components Limited, and the Chairman of NIA Educational Institutions.
Sakthi Auto Components has a 75,000 tons per annum foundry in Pallagoundanpalayam, Tirupur, 30,000 tons per annum foundry in Coimbatore and a 75,000 tons per annum foundry in Maia, Portugal. It has Aluminium foundries in China and USA with a combined capacity to serve 7 million automobiles per annum. All the units have machining facility attached with them.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions in the Management of Agro Processing Industries and Agricultural Development, an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science was conferred upon him by Tamilnadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, in July, 2010.
He is the Chairman of the Governing Council of Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology, and Nachimuthu Polytechnic College, Pollachi, Vice Chairman of Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore. He is also the Correspondent of Kasturba Gandhi Oral School for the Hearing Impaired, Coimbatore, where teaching is imparted to deaf students by highly trained teachers from Kindergarten to High School level by oral method.
He was the President of the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), New Delhi in 1996-1997, President of South Indian Sugar Mills Association (SISMA) (Tamilnadu) during 1993-1995, 2006-2007, 2012-2014 and also President of the Sugar Technologists’ Association of India (STAI) in 2000-2002.
Currently he is a member of the State Level Information and Technology Task force, constituted by Government of Tamilnadu and the Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Society, Pune. He is also the Chairman of Society of Automotive Engineers India (SAEINDIA), Coimbatore Chapter, Vice Chairman Gandhi Museum, Madurai and President of Tamilnadu State Chess Association.
The Sugar Technologists’ Association of India honoured him with “Life Time Achievement Award” for his innovative contributions to the growth and development of Indian Sugar Industry in September 2015.
